Master History

Master History (90 ECTS Credits)

The Master's program in history provides an in-depth exploration of history from antiquity to the present. It places emphasis on historical research, offers a deep exploration of theories and methods, and encourages the intense study of a topic without restricting broad historical knowledge and professional or academic perspectives. Students acquire the ability to develop independent, challenging questions and to critically discuss methodological and theoretical concepts. They learn to think in complex historical contexts and to present these thoughts in a structured way. The degree program provides a scientific education at a high level. The Master's degree allows for individualized development and qualifies students for demanding professional tasks. It is also a prerequisite for continuing an academic career at doctoral level.

Master History (30 ECTS Credits)

The Master’s program in history (30 ECTS credits) provides the students with a scientific exploration of history from antiquity to the present day as well as knowledge of the relevant methods and theories of the study of history. In conjunction with a social science or humanities major, it serves to recognize and reflect on the historical dimension of social, political, and cultural phenomena.

Master Ancient History (30 ECTS Credits)

The Master's program in Ancient History (30 ECTS credits) provides in-depth knowledge of Ancient History. Students learn to competently deal with scientific results from the field. They are familiar with controversial research questions in Ancient History and develop their own concepts in this field.

Master Medieval History (30 ECTS Credits)

The Master's program in Medieval History  (30 ECTS credits) provides in-depth knowledge of the European Middle Ages and establishes specialist competence in the political history as well as the social, economic, and cultural history of the Middle Ages. Students gain experience in working with medieval manuscripts and other archival materials. They learn the important controversial problem areas of medieval studies and develop their own concepts in this field.

Master Modern History (30 ECTS Credits)

The Master’s program in Modern History (30 ECTS Credits) provides the students with a scientific exploration of Modern History as well as the knowledge of relevant methods and theories of the study of history. In conjunction with a social science or humanities major, it serves to recognize and reflect on the historical dimension of social, political, and cultural phenomena.

Master in Eastern European History (30 ECTS Credits)

The Master’s program in Eastern European History (30 ECTS Credits) helps students acquire knowledge of the basic structures of the history of Eastern Europe. It aims to classify the particularities of this discipline within the framework of European history and serves to develop the foundations for understanding contemporary Eastern Europe. It provides students with the ability to deal competently with scientific results from the subject area, to work independently on historical issues, and to conduct their own research.
