After his history licentiate degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (Chile), he has worked as a teaching and research assistant at the University of Zurich where he completed his PhD thesis on Bestiality in Early Modern Zurich. In his PhD thesis, he provides a microhistory of sexuality from a praxeological perspective and examines the theological foundations of bestiality and desire as well as the gender relations in Reformed Zurich. In 2020, he joined the chair of Prof. Roberto Zaugg as a senior teaching and research assistant (Oberassistent). His current postdoc project investigates indigenous understandings of the past in the Viceroyalty of Peru and their colonial juxtapositions to early modern European historical discourse. It aims at developping a transcultural idea of history from the perspective of colonial/early modern Latin America. Jose Cáceres teaches colonial Latin American and early modern Swiss history as well as cultural history and postcolonial studies.
